Terms of service

Last updated July 9, 2026

These terms are the deal between you and Countwell. Short version: it's your data, use the service honestly, the numbers are estimates, and don't rely on a food journal for medical decisions.

The service

Countwell is a food and weight journal with goal tracking, coach sharing, and optional AI integrations, available on the web and iPhone. Some features (like sharing) are part of a paid Countwell Premium tier; prices and what's included are shown before you pay, and subscriptions purchased on iPhone are billed and managed through your App Store account.

Your account and your data

You need an account to use Countwell, and you're responsible for what happens under it. The content you log is yours: you can export it at any time and delete your account whenever you want, which permanently removes your data as described in the privacy policy. We claim no ownership of your journal — only the limited right to store and process it in order to run the service.

Acceptable use

Don't abuse the service: no attempting to access other people's data, probing or overloading the API, reselling the food database, or using Countwell to violate the law. Share links and AI connections act with your authority — you're responsible for who you give them to and what those apps do with the access you grant.

Estimates, not medicine

Nutrition values come from third-party databases and AI estimates, and both can be wrong. Countwell is not a medical device, does not give medical or dietary advice, and is not designed for managing medical conditions. Consult a qualified professional before making health decisions, and do not use Countwell if calorie tracking conflicts with guidance you've received about disordered eating.

Food database

Food search, barcode, and nutrition data are powered by the fatsecret Platform API. By using Countwell you also agree to the fatsecret Platform API terms of use. fatsecret is the source of that catalog data; Countwell stores only the entries you choose to log.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Countwell fast and reliable but provide it “as is,” without warranties, and we may change or discontinue features. If we ever discontinue the service itself, we'll give you a reasonable window to export your data. To the maximum extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid for the service in the twelve months before a claim.

Termination

You can stop using Countwell at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, with export access where legally required.
